what do you want for the holidays?

I’m going to try and produce a once a day feature for the next two weeks called Handmade Holidays. We usually do clothes here, but I’ll bend the rules a bit and do more gift-y things in addition to clothing.
But who wants to only see things I want? E-mail me and let me know what […]

Aprons, you say? Who wants an apron? Lies.
Aprons are gorgeous and can definitely be sexy if you feel like workin’ that vintage ’50s housewife thing. Domestikit over at Etsy makes these gorgeous vintage look aprons with pretty trims. Pair them with some leggings and you’ve got a day look. Pair it with a bra…and you’ve […]

rory beca linen cardigan

This is a good cardigan for the office. I don’t know about yours, but my day job’s office is freezing, even in the middle of summer. It’s light, made with linen, but Rory Beca as made a simple pretty cardigan worthy of everyday.  Plus, it’s on sale! ($140)

vintage plaid bag

This plaid bag from Sugar Toatigami is described as vintage and I think that means that it’s crafted from vintage fabric, a great process that I am glad more designers are using. ($32)

swirly vintage party dress

Remember the sisterly team of Maki Squarepatch? Well, I was taking a cruise of their site today and found this dress. I want it. It seems perfect for that holiday party that I have yet to be invited to. Vintage dresses are so much better. ($182)

poll: are you shopping handmade?

After Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the crazy holiday shopping season. Lists will go around, requests will be made and lots and lots of money will be spent. Since we’re all about the independent here, I’m trying my best this year to buy according to this philosophy and thousands are doing the same. they’re pledging […]

designer spotlight: kahri

Ive kept an eye on Kahri for a long time, mostly because KahriAnne Kerr also attended my alma mater, Iowa State. She was one of the few local designers we had and I fell in love with her funky wares. She’s grown incredibly as a designer since her move to NYC and it makes me […]

elijah strapless dress

I believe white after Labor Day is just fine, especially if it gives me a reason to wear this gorgeous dress by Elijah. It’s more summery, but it would look good with a little bit of layering. ($410)
